Dee Ann Benard


Dee Ann Benard completed her B.Sc. (Biology) and M.Sc. (Plant Pathology) at Simon Fraser University before moving to Edmonton in 1994 to work for Alberta Agriculture, first as a potato pathologist, and later as a cereals and oilseeds crop specialist.  In 1998, Dee Ann transferred to private industry to manage the Alberta operations of a contract agricultural research company (ICMS, Inc).  She joined the Alberta Research Council in 2000, first as a canola pathologist, then as a cereal pathologist and finally, doing business development.  Since 2004, Dee Ann has worked as an executive director: she spent five years with the Agricultural Research and Extension Council of Alberta (ARECA), and currently works for the Alberta Rural Development Network (ARDN).  Dee Ann was first elected to the Agriculture and Food Council in 2005, and spent two years as the chair of Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food (ACAAF).  She lives on a small farm in Strathcona County with her husband Jim and their son Adam.
