Foundation Document

The Agriculture and Food Council of Alberta now has a Foundation Document that revamps the organization’s mandate in keeping with current circumstances and the needs of the industry.

In the document approved at a 2011 Board of Directors meeting, Council committed to becoming a centre of excellence and service for small and medium-sized enterprises to link institutional, corporate, governmental and non-governmental organizations to focus their resources on building the agri-food industry in Alberta. It also pledged to develop a network of strategic national and international partnerships that bring more opportunities that add value to the sector in Alberta.

The Foundation Document lays the groundwork for Council to explore the “intersections” of other sectors with agriculture and to develop linkages with those sectors to benefit Alberta’s agricultural sector. It also captures the Council’s aim to build strategic relationships at the political and corporate leadership level in and outside Alberta to better position the agriculture sector for success. These activities will be pursued while the Council broadens the context of events for the agri-food industry and to continue delivering federal and provincial programs and looking outside traditional government program funding to find new options.
