Success Story

Linda and Dan Wester farm near Tilley in southeastern Alberta. With support from ALMDP, they both took the Canadian Total Excellence in Agricultural Management (CTEAM) course for Canada’s leading farmers.  The CTEAM program is structured as four one-week modules over two years.

“CTEAM provided a lot of learning and understanding and for me; it answered the question: where do I go from here,” Dan Wester said. “Exposure to this program gave us ideas and options for our future and we are bringing it back home by organizing seminars and programs in our community. It gave us a new basis for understanding and a vision for learning.”

Advanced Leadership and Management Development (ALMDP)

Where new leaders emerge

The Advanced Leadership and Management Development Program (ALMDP) assists agribusiness managers to access and develop skills.

The program provides up to $7,500 to future leaders. These funds are provided for focused education and training, enabling agribusiness managers to gain the experience they need to fully develop their leadership and management potential.

Funds are available on a first come first served basis, and will cover 100% of the cost of enrollment in recognized leadership and management programs, and up to 50% of the  associated expense to a cap of $7,500 per individual.

To access the funding, potential recipients must pay the upfront costs for their program, and provide documentation after the successful completion of the program.

Program Criteria

This opportunity is aimed at agribusiness managers committed to advancing their skill development in the areas of leadership and management. The program can provide up to $7,500 (Cdn) toward completing programs from recognized institutions across North America.

This program is offered on a first come first served basis with total funding of $75,000. It will be available from September 1 to March 31, 2008. Funding will be awarded to an individual only once per program year.

Candidates must pay for and complete their courses, and provide documentation to the Agriculture and Food Council prior to any funds being received. The ALMDP Awards will reimburse up to 100% of enrollment fees and up to 50% of expenses such as travel, food, accommodation and course material costs, to a maximum of $7,500.

Eligibility

A minimum of 10 Alberta agribusiness or value-added entrepreneurs can participate in the program. Candidates must be residents of Alberta, be directly involved in the industry, have a minimum of 5-10 years experience in agriculture or agribusiness, and show a passion for building the industry in the province.

In addition, potential candidates must be willing to give information back to the Agriculture and Food Council and their industry.
