The Alberta Value Chain Initiative
After nearly a decade acting as a catalyst for increased understanding of value-chain approaches in Alberta and across Canada, the Agriculture and Food Council fulfilled its mandate to launch new programs, and then allow them independance.
In 2007-08, Council's role in the Value Chain Initiative came to a close. Successful transitioning to Agriculture and Rural Development took place in April 2008. For current information on value-chains and the Value Chain Network, please visit Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development.
Environmental Policy Initiatives Project (EPIP)
The Council has pursued continuously for nine years innovative policy work related to environmental issues affecting long-term growth and sustainability of the agri-food industry. Our work has focused on research, discussion, consultation and dissemination on land use and environmental stewardship. We are proud of our contribution and commitment to enable a sustainable future for society and agricultural producers.
Effective April 1, 2009, AFC has closed its environmental policy initiatives. However, we expect action and commitment from industry and government to continue. From our experience, the Council offers a few suggestions on priorities and next steps. Click on “EPIP” to learn more.
