The Agriculture and Food Council of Alberta is a non-profit society formed in 1994 as a result of the Creating Tomorrow consultation process between the Alberta government and agriculture and agri-food groups.
It is an industry-led organization comprised of volunteer member representatives from across Alberta's agri-food industry, including a student member. An election is held every spring to replace members whose terms have expired.
The Council is a catalyst for the agri-food industry to encourage growth, sustainability, competitiveness and profitability.
This is accomplished through several major projects and programs, including:
Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food (ACAAF); the Innovation in Agribusiness Management Fund (IAMF), the Value Chain Initiative, Advanced Leadership and Management Development Program (ALMDP); Environmental Policy Initiative Program; and Human Resource Projects.
The Agriculture and Food Council is also a forum where industry members can engage one another, stakeholders, and the public.
